Alexandre & Patric Claes Arts of Africa
Alexandre & Patric Claes specialize in the arts of Africa. This year, they are joining Parcours des Mondes as part of our showcase.
Biography
A specialist in classical African art, Alexandre Claes has been immersed in the field from a very young age. Alongside his father and elder brother, Didier Claes, he grew up at the very heart of Kinshasa’s artistic and cultural world. Steeped in this environment, Alexandre absorbed and retained the wealth of discoveries he encountered. Influenced by his elder brother, already an art dealer in Brussels’ Sablon district, he drew on this knowledge to make it his profession.
Since 2004, Alexandre Claes has worked with his brother as a business introducer for Claes Gallery. In 2018, he joined the committee of BRUNEAF, where he served as vice-president until 2022. With a keen eye and deep expertise, Alexandre evaluates and authenticates works from the world of classical African art. He also curates private exhibitions as well as presentations at national and international fairs.
