Power Figures Galerie Alain et Abla Lecomte
For the 19th edition of Parcours des mondes, the Alain et Abla Lecomte gallery's will showcase at the 4, rue des Beaux-Arts an exhibition about power figures in Sub-Saharan Africa.
For Abla and Alain Lecomte, the Parcours des mondes fair is the unique occasion to showcase a special show each year.
This year, the topic will focus on "power figures". Indeed in Tribal Art, masks and sculptures are, very oftenly, coated with "fetish material". These artworks are full of power and mystery. They belong to a great corpus and each one of them highlights his own aesthetic and singularity.
Even if the Bakongo could dominate, the "Fon power figure" (previously in Jacques Kerchache private collection) is not set apart due to his great expression. The Mambila power figure and the Dan masks, are also part of the vibrating exhibition with their own fetishes material, fabrics and coins.
A Tsogo oliphant (with an Inagaki base) from Gabon, with his dark patina is like an echo to these artifacts.
East Africa will also be depicted with a Paré horn from Tanzania, presenting a face with great facial characteristics as a plug.
