Akan Galerie Vallois
In addition to the special show on Dominique Zinkpè, the Galerie Vallois will present another thematic exhibition on the Ashanti gold weights.
For this year’s Parcours des Mondes, Galerie Vallois will present a remarkable ensemble of nearly two hundred Akan (West Africa), Ashanti, Baule and Atie gold weights, formerly in the Paolo Morigi (1939-2017) collection, in its exhibition space at 41 rue de Seine. An accomplished ethnologist and ethnographer, Morigi, who was from the Romagna region of Switzerland, was also active as an academic at the Burckhardt Academy in Rome. He pursued a passionate interest in African art for nearly forty years, and traveled extensively throughout West Africa, most notably Ivory Coast and Liberia, where he did important research work and collected a great deal of valuable information and photographs.
This group of Akan weights, ornaments and other objects is being presented to the public for the first time here.
