Egypt and Classic arts
Born in Brussels in 1960, Jacques Billen founded his gallery in 1988 in Sablon, the antiques district of his home town. A graduate in History of Art and Ar- chaeology and Oriental Philology and History of the Université Catholique de Louvain, Jacques Billen is first and foremost a specialist in ancient Egyptian art but also has built a career as an antiquities dealer. Jacques Billen is a mem- ber of the following expert and antiquarian associations: Chambre Belge des Experts en Oeuvres d’Art (Belgian Chamber of Art Experts) Chambre Royale des Antiquaires et des Négociants en Œuvres d’Art de Belgique (Royal Chamber of Belgian Antique and Fine Art Dealers), International Association of Dealers in Ancient Art (IADAA), Syndicat National des Antiquaires (SNA).
Islamic and Indian art
Alexis Renard is a specialized dealer and expert in the field of Indian and Islamic Art, based in Paris (Île Saint Louis) for 20 years. The gallery offers valuations, brokerage operations and research of objects for museums and private collectors, as well as buying and selling. Archeology of the Mediterranean Basin
When she was 13 years old, Laura Bosc de Ganay saw her first Egyptian collection in Paris and she had that flash in mind: working with Egyptian antiquities. She is a a tenacious antiquities dealer, fascinated by Egyptian Art, but also Greek, Roman and Mesopotamian Art. After five years in the Antiquities business, IADAA cheerly welcomed her in 2008. Working all over Europe, mobile and flexible, her main concern is helping collectors finding, and retaining Antiquities that match with their taste and temperament. She has chosen not to set up a gallery and meet only by appointment to be free . She prefers to exhibit in internationals fairs.

Another objective of the gallery J. BAGOT Arqueología – Ancient Art is to offer to the public and art lovers in general the possibility to see temporary exhibitions and publicize fully the works included in them. A recent example of this is the publication of a catalogue of the archeological collection of the Spanish artist, Ignacio Zuloaga – a collection begun by his father and completed by the artist himself – and made up of a small group of excellent examples of ancient classical ceramics. Another is the exhibition we held in Madrid of the biggest private collection in the country of rings, intaglios and cameos – made up of more than two thousand pieces – from all ancient epochs: from the earliest examples from the 6th millennia BC in the Middle East pieces from ancient Egypt, Greece, Phoenicia, Carthage, Pre-Roman Europe, the Roman Empire, The Byzantine Empire, Medieval Europe, the Islamic world the Renaissance and finally to works from the 19th Century. The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue setting out the finest examples, and is in fact the most complete document of ancient rings published in spanish.

Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas
A native of the art world, Charles Wesley-Hourdé began his professional career with a booth at the Saint-Ouen flea market in Paris in 2005. He opened a gallery devoted to his area of predilection and specialty in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area in the heart of Paris’ African and Oceanic art neighborhood the following year. He participates in many international art shows and regularly organizes exhibitions at his gallery as well. In 2010, Christie’s engaged him to work in their Department of African and Oceanic art. Under his leadership, the department saw sales multiply by a factor of three in the space of five years, and a number of world record auction prices were achieved. Now with more experience, knowledge and ability than ever before, Hourdé returned to being independent and to devoting himself to various more personal projects in 2016. While remaining a consultant for a number of auction houses and private collectors, he opened a gallery again in Saint-Germain-des-Prés (first on the rue Mazarine and then on the rue de Seine). He has organized several major shows at these locations since then, most notably Passeurs de Rêves in 2016, L’Emprise des masques in 2017, and Pigalle 1930: retour sur une exposition mythique in 2018. His in-depth understanding of the artworks he handles and their history is apparent in the catalogs he publishes. They are abundantly illustrated and supply a wealth of documentation. He is the author of the most complete study on famed woodworker Kichizô Inagaki, and was the co-director of a publication on the African and Oceanic art show held at Galerie Pigalle in 1930 that has established itself as a major reference work in the literature.

Frederic Rond was born in 1974. In 1999 he won the Ehrhardt prize in atomic physics. From 1999 to 2006, he was a Business Intelligence consultant with Axa group, with frequent stays in India. In 2006 he established Indian Heritage, specializing in Indian and Himalayan art. The gallery offers both primitive and classical pieces, with a focus on Himalayan masks.

In 2015, I became a member of the Syndicat français des experts professionnels en oeuvres d’art et objets de collection (SFEP), in which I am an expert on the arts of Africa, the Americas, and Oceania. Galerie Vallois Art Moderne et Contemporain was created by Robert Valoois in 1983. Stéphane Jacob created Arts d’Australie • Stéphane Jacob (Paris) in 1996 and is a member of the Chambre Nationale des Experts Spécialisés en Objets d’Art et de Collection (C.N.E.S) and the Comité Professionnel des Galeries d’Art. He is a graduate of the Ecole du Louvre and was formerly the communications director for the Musée National des Monuments Français in Paris. A specialist in Australian Aboriginal art as well as that of the Torres Strait, Stéphane Jacob is recognized today both by collectors and major museums as one of the leading European authorities on these subjects.
African and Oceanic Art
Kevin Conru is known for his publications on Southern African art, on the arts of the Pacific Islands and on the photographs of Hugo Bernatzik. He has travelled extensively in the Pacific and is a member of the Pacific Arts Association and the Oceanic Art Society. He has an Arts Policy MA from The City University, London, and is an orchestral double bassist. He has produced a major book on the art of the Bismarck Archipelago in Melanesia which was released in September, 2013. He has curated an important exhibition of Papua New Guinea masterpieces from the Royal Museum for Central Africa, which was held in Brussels in 2014. He most recently published the archives of William Oldman.
Indian Art (South-East Asia and Himalaya)
Christophe Hioco focus on Asian art by being and acting as a passionnate collector: all the artworks on display are his property. The criteria for selection are every bit as demanding as those of the world’s leading museums. Galerie Hioco takes part in the leading Asian Art Shows on a regular basis: Biennale de Paris, BRAFA in Brussels and Asia Week in New York.
MICHEL THIEME TRIBAL ART
While researching authentic styles of tattooing in the course of extensive travels through Polynesia and Indonesia, a new passion was born: collecting and dealing in tribal art. The result was the opening in 2000 of a small basement gallery on the Spiegelgracht, near the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Henceforth, the hunting grounds would be libraries and archives instead of jungles, and the means of conveyance would be a high-speed train instead of a dugout canoe. Michel Thieme has distinguished himself with shows that evoke the flavour of the curiosity cabinets of the past, while still displaying a twenty-first-century aesthetic sensibility.

Tribal art from Africa, Oceania and the Americas
Jean-Baptiste Bacquart holds degrees in art history and archaeology from the Sorbonne and the Ecole du Louvre. After having been the director of the tribal art department at Sotheby’s, London, he opened his own gallery at 27, rue de Seine in Paris. He is also a consultant for museums and international collectors. His interest in tribal art began with an encounter with a Rarotonga staff god, an object shrouded in mystery but which also had a ritual function, a combination that was to become an important criterion for him. His book L’art tribal d’Afrique noire (Thames and Hudson) has been a major success with collectors and is now in its fourth printing.
The gallery is specialized in the ritual works of Africa. Whether it is sculptures from West Africa, such as the Tyiwara crests of the Malian Bambara ethnic group, the Fang or Punu "classics" of Gabonese art, or the statues with the magical or prophylactic virtues of the Téké, Luba, or Kusu tribes from Congo, objects are always chosen according to demanding selection criteria.
The Galerie Vallois Art Moderne et Contemporain was created by Robert Vallois in 1983. Ancient Egyptian Art and Antiquities
Lucien Viola, grandson of the well-known antiquities dealer Maurice Nahman, is an art historian, collector, and antiquities dealer specializing in Egyptian art. The Viola-Nahman family has been involved in the Egyptian objects trade since 1890. He has worked closely with Ernest Kofler, the major Swiss collector of Egyptian art. Following his art studies at New York's Institute of Fine Arts in the early 1970s, Viola opened Galerie l’Ibis in New York and remained there until 1995. From 1995 through 2012, he pursued an interest in Berber art and put together a major collection of Moroccan artworks that will soon be on display at a private museum in Marrakech. Beginning in 2012, he returned to directing his Egyptian art gallery and since then has participated in many important international art fairs. He has donated Egyptian works to the Musée du Louvre and the Boston Museum of Fine arts, among other institutions. He is a member of the Appraisers Association of America, the Syndicat National des Antiquaires, BRUNEAF (the Brussels Non-European Art Fair), and the Société Française d’Egyptologie.
Jean-David Cahn AG was founded in 1999 and continues a proud family tradition that reaches back for over 150 years. The gallery specialises in ancient Greek and Roman art and is directed by the classical archaeologist Jean-David Cahn, who is the fourth generation of his family to be an art dealer. The offering of artworks spans several millennia, from ca. 4000 B.C. to 400 A.D., and includes sculptures and statuettes made of marble, bronze, and terracotta, black- and red-figure vases, glass, jewellery and coins. A selection of objects is on display in our gallery at Malzgasse 23 in Basle. Furthermore, Cahn AG participates in the art fairs TEFAF Maastricht, TEFAF New York and La Biennale Paris. Since 1971, Dimondstein Tribal Arts has been selling traditional and ritual art from the African continent. Asian Art and Ethnography
Thomas Murray is an independent researcher, collector, lecturer and private dealer of Asian and Tribal art with an emphasis on Indonesian sculpture and textiles, as well as animistic art from other varied cultures. He also features Indian Trade Cloths from the 14th-18th Centuries. A HALI magazine contributing editor for the last 30 years, he serves as their "in-house" expert on all tribal sculpture and textiles, with more than 50 publications. His most recent book, “Textiles of Japan” was met with critical acclaim. Thomas Murray is Past President of ATADA, The Antique Tribal Art Dealers Association and recently served a three-year term as a member of President Obama's Cultural Property Advisory Committee at the State Department. Bernard de Grunne has been immersed in the world of great tribal sculpture for more than 40 years as he actively accompanied his father Baudouin de Grunne in building one of the finest collection of Tribal art in Europe from 1968 to 1995. He started dealing for his own account in 1995 in African, Oceanic and Indonesian Tribal Art during which time he has acquired an international reputation for quality, scholarship and professionalism. Antique art of Southeast Asia

Rare and out of print publications
Located near the historic crossroad of rue Mazarine street Buci, of l'Ancienne Comédie, and the rue Saint-André des Arts et de la rue Dauphine, the library is housed in a 17th century building. The library exists since 1946. In 2005, Pierre Durieu takes it over and redirects it to contemporary creation. Pierre Durieu was bookseller specializing in arts, first at La Hune (1978-1982); then he headed the library of the Musée d'Art moderne de la Ville de Paris (1982-2005) and the library of the Palais de Tokyo (2002-2004).

Max Rutherston’s career began in impressionist and modern art when he joined Sotheby’s in 1979. In 1990 he discovered Japan, and in 1992 he devoted a year to the study of the Japanese language before joining the Japanese art department at Sotheby’s, of which he became director of in 1997. He developed an interest in netsuke in 2002 after he had been invited to manage Sydney L. Moss Ltd., London’s oldest Asian art gallery. In 2010, he formed the partnership of Rutherston & Bandini Ltd., a company that quickly established itself as one of the most important in the world for netsuke and lacquer works. For the past three years, he has continued to develop the market for these objects as Max Rutherston Ltd.

Specializing in the arts of Africa and Oceania since 1971, Alain de Monbrison opened his gallery at 2 rue des Beaux arts in 1981. He maintains longstanding professional relationships with the most important American and European museums and is an honorary expert for the French courts, as well as a member of the Compagnie Nationale des Experts and the Syndicat National des Antiquaires.
GALERIE DARTEVELLE SPRL
The art gallery Dartevelle was founded in the late 1960s. At that time, archeology allowed new arrivals of African art from Mali, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Zaire: a lot of new artworks were discovered, includingthe rare Batcham masks and Buli statuettes, which were left there. The gallery quickly became famous in the world of tribal arts. The gallery has sold artworks to many museums including the Quai Branly in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Today the gallery retails items from old collections and public auctions.
After collaborating for several years with the merchants Jacques Fischer, specialized in XIXth century’s art and Jean-Philippe Mariaud de Serres, specialized in archaeology, Antoine Tarantino opened his own gallery in June 2007. The place, located in the heart of New Athens, evokes the atmosphere of an Italian palace. It is suitable both for large format paintings and archaeological objects such as marble sculptures, Greek vases and intaglios. A room devoted to graphic arts allows the exhibition of a selection of Italian artists from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century. The Tarantino Gallery has had the opportunity to propose several thematic exhibitions, accompanied by scientific catalogs to promote the knowledge of classical archeology and Italian art.

Galerie Meyer - Oceanic Art as it stands today was created in January 1980 by my mother Rita Alix Meyer. I joined her in October of 1980 and as junior partner in 1981. Since then I have devoted my self to the fine and early arts of the Pacific cultures authoring numerous exhibition catalogues and an important reference book on the subject of Oceanic Art. Following my mothers retirement I have run the gallery on my own since 1996. In 2010 I opened a second department in my gallery dealing in the archaic art forms of the early Eskimo cultures.

Asian, African, Oceanic works of art and textiles
The first of many visits to Indonesia in 1974 resulted in Jonathan Hope’s lifelong fascination with the arts and culture of Southeast Asia. Soon after returning to London he began trading in textiles and in 1977 he worked on the first ever museum exhibition of Southeast Asian ikat in the United Kingdom at the Abbot Hall Museum in Kendal, Cumbria. The curator was the museum’s director, the late Mary Burket OBE, and all the textiles were from Hope’s own collection. Over the next decade he travelled extensively in Asia, from Tibet to outer island Indonesia. During this time, a widening circle of international collectors and museums became regular clients. Research was always important to Jonathan and he published numerous articles on various subjects, usually for Hali magazine, the textile journal, for which he is also a contributing editor. His acquired knowledge and first hand experience of Asian artifacts and culture meant that he has often been invited as a guest lecturer by several institutions. These include the Sotheby’s education course, the Textile and Rug Society of Great Britain, the British Museum BA course and more recently S.O.A.S. After spending much time in museums studying their collections of world, ethnographic art, he began acquiring examples of sculpture and metalwork from the countries in which he had travelled. Many of these pieces are now in important private and public collections, including the Australian National Gallery, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Musée du Quai Branly Jacques Chirac. In 2011 his collection of fine Javanese batik and Indian export textiles, made for Indonesia, was exhibited at the Edinburgh International Festival. The show was called “Heirlooms” and was curated by Jonathan Hope himself. It attracted much attention and was favourably reviewed by the world’s press, from “the Hindu” to “the Wall Street Journal”. Parcours has become an annual event for Jonathan and he greatly enjoys the interaction with both academics and amateur collectors from so many countries.

MICHAEL HAMSON OCEANIC ART
Michael Hamson started his career as a field collector, making 46 trips into the most remote areas of New Guinea. He has supplemented this experience with Master’s degree in Oceanic and African art history from the University of California at Santa Barbara providing an academic and aesthetic foundation. In the last eleven years Michael has focused exclusively on sourcing his material from old collections in the US, Europe and Australia. He now uses the energy once devoted to field collecting to crisscross the globe aggressively hunting for the oldest and most beautiful Oceanic art fresh to the market.
