Bernard de Grunne has been immersed in the universe of important tribal art sculpture for more than forty years. Between 1968 and 1995 he helped his father, Baudouin de Grunne, assemble a legendary tribal art collection, and from 1987 to 1992 he was the director of the tribal art department at Sotheby’s, London and New York. He opened his own gallery specializing in the arts of Africa, Oceania, and tribal Indonesia in 1995, which continues to enjoy an international reputation for the high level of the works it offers, for the in-depth academic research it does on them, and for its professionalism. He has acted as a consultant for the development of numerous tribal art collections, including some of the most important ones in the United States and Europe.
