Galerie A. Lecomte has had a presence on the international art market for some twenty years, distinguishing itself with its high-level thematic exhibitions on the Bakongo group, which have been accompanied by carefully researched monographs. Preparing a thematic exhibition is no simple matter. It can take years to put together a coherent ensemble of high-quality objects, but on the other hand it can happen suddenly and all at once when least expected, as it did for Alain and Abla Lecomte this year. Claude Lehuard, the brother Raoul Lehuard, offered them his complete collection of Bateke “fetishes” collected by their father Robert Lehuard between 1924 and 1933…
